The MEDTEQ PPS 4.0 consists of PC software, USB module and pressure sensor. It is used for real time monitoring of pressure pressure waveforms at significantly higher speeds than normally found in pressure monitoring equipment, while maintaining high accuracy.
The system is designed for IEC 80601-2-30, which includes various tests in both normal and fault condition where the pressure waveform peaks and duration above and below thresholds need to be inspected to determine compliance. The system includes with the following characteristics:
- an IBP sensor which is easily compatible with NIBP tubing
- high accuracy (+/-0.5mmHg or 0.2% of reading)
- fast response time (<100ms)
- ability to capture peak pressures accurately
- measurement range of -50 to +400mmHg (or according to user request)
In addition, PC based measurement system provides a graphical record and a log of time at which pressures exceed certain thresholds such as the 15, 300 and 330mmHg values specified in the standard. The software automatically indicates if pressures and duration exceed allowable limit (e.g. >180s over 15mmHg without a break). The graphs are easily copied to word processing applications making it easy to make test reports and visualise or explain non-conforming test results.
As the sensor is a normal IBP transducer, the system can also be used for other purposes, such as measurement of pressures in blood circuits. In case of measurement of occlusion pressures (e.g. in IEC 60601-2-24), special ranges up to 200kPa (around 1300mmHg) can be provided. For laboratories testing both NIBP and infusion pumps, a dual range version is available which can maintain suitable accuracy for both ranges.
Note that the sensor is an external IBP sensor and is not compensated for temperature. It therefore is unable to provide 0.1% accuracy over the full range as required by IBP standard IEC 60601-2-34.

In August 2017, the hardware design was upgraded and released as PPS 4.0. It is compatible with the version 3.2.0.x software. An updated version of the software is planned to be released in September 2017 to support dual version.
